The Wrestling team has always been exhilarating and competitive here at CCA. However, this year a significant change has taken place among the team. Coach Williams, the former head coach, has recently been replaced by Kevin Shuey. He stepped in as the new head coach shortly after Coach Williams decided to step down and become an assistant. Both Shuey and Williams say “it is a move for the better,” as the team will be stronger and more competitive than ever.

With the season just beginning the team gathers in the 6290 Building after school for practice. “We train hard,” remarked Coach Shuey, as he was talking about the team’s desire for victory, and will to work for God. The wrestling staff believes the team has not only grown stronger physically and on the mats, but spiritually too. They have a short devotional and prayer before practice, and the coaches incorporate biblical principles, especially to the younger elementary students who also participate with the team in practice and matches.

Shuey feels the switch of coaches created a new sense of urgency and strength in the team. Some players have stepped up and taken leading roles to motivate the others. “Everyone is close, we are like a family to one another,” said Shuey while he looked onto his team practice.

Coach Williams stepped down because he felt God was calling him to a new path in his life. Like he said earlier, “it was a change for the better.” Everyone accepts the change of coaches, believing that this is God’s will. If the team has a new move is just to fly higher than ever.
