Under the intrepid guidance of Mr. Steve Mayo, CCA Student Council is back with a new year of unifying events. The Messenger introduces you to each grade’s representative for Student Council 2011-2012, giving you a glimpse of what they believe and why the believe it. Here are their thoughts…on God, on Politics, on Faith, and on Leadership in America.

on God…

Steve Mayo: God—We have the ultimate example of leadership in God. In John 13:1-10 Jesus takes the time to wash the disciples’ feet to help them understand that the idea of leadership involves servanthood.

David Brown: I believe that God blesses certain people with leadership qualities. I think everybody has certain levels of leadership potential, but some were literally born leaders.

Avery Reeder: I believe God is so wise, and that’s comforting. However, I struggle with trusting Him because my pride in my knowledge that He has given me tends to get in the way. Faith isn’t just believing He’s there.

Kristi Pitts: I think whatever we do, we should give glory to God and that He should be our first priority.

Jacob Losego: He is the ultimate authority.

on Politics…

Steve Mayo: I think it is interesting where politics has gone. Politics used to be serving the public, not a career, and I think we’ve moved far from that today.

David Brown: I believe that it is important to have leaders who are not only godly, but also have good morals involved in politics. This is one reason why I want to be involved in politics when I am older because I want to change people’s perceptions of what politicians are like. We need godly leaders in politic

on Faith…

Steve Mayo: You have to have faith, not only in people, but in the Lord and that He is going to work it out. In Student Council we are trying to make it a fun year for everyone, but it’s a big task and we have to rely on the Lord, as always.

David Brown: I think that it is important that leaders have faith. Without faith many leaders are not held to that high standard of living.

Avery Reeder: Faith, for me, is believing He’ll take care of me and I don’t need to control every single aspect of my life.

on Leadership in America…

Steve Mayo: Student Councils around the country help build leadership, and I would love to see our Student Council produce real leaders who later say this is how they learned to do things the right way and how to be a leader. I’d love to see our student leaders go on to lead at local, state, national, and spiritual levels.

David Brown: It is important to have leaders with integrity, high morals, and a faith in God.

Avery Reeder: I believe leadership in America will turn out okay. I can see God in heaven just watching with sorrow in His heart, waiting for America to surrender to Him so He can redeem us.

Kristi Pitts: It’s definitely important because you need good leaders so people will follow.

Jacob Losego: Everyone has an opinion on how things should be run, but just because everyone doesn’t agree with something doesn’t mean it is wrong, and we, as Christians, should know that better than anybody.

My name is Stephen Barnett and I am a junior at Calvary Christian Academy. I’ve always been interested in writing and so I decided to take journalism this year. I know that writing for the Messenger will help me get into the school news and learn more about Calvary’s social side. I have a passion for sports and play for the football and baseball teams at CCA. When I graduate, I plan to play college baseball and major in sports management; I want to do sports writing or radio. My life verse is Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” This verse gives me strength and courage on a daily basis.

Hi my name is Sara Jane Kelliher and I am freshman at CCA. It is so much fun writing for The Messenger. I love finding new information for everything that goes on at CCA, I expecially love writing about fine arts and student life. I find new and exciting information intriguing and I love to share it with my classmates. I have a strong passion for helping out at my church with the young children. I hope to become author, journalist, or photographer. I have two favorite Bible verses: Jeremiah 29:11 “ For I know that plan I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. Psalm 139:14 “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made your works are wonderful I know that full well.”

I love putting news from school and around the world into ways that relate to the CCA students. I enjoy fine arts and athletics. I love ministering to people, and spreading the God’s word and the love of Christ. I believe that God has a divine plan for everyone. Jeremiah 29:11 states, “For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you to give you hope and a future.”
