Steven Barnett
My name is Stephen Barnett and I am a junior at Calvary Christian Academy. I’ve always been interested in writing and so I decided to take journalism this year. I know that writing for the Messenger will help me get into the school news and learn more about Calvary’s social side. I have a passion for sports and play for the football and baseball teams at CCA. When I graduate, I plan to play college baseball and major in sports management; I want to do sports writing or radio. My life verse is Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” This verse gives me strength and courage on a daily basis.

Sarah Jane Kelliher
Hi my name is Sara Jane Kelliher and I am freshman at CCA. It is so much fun writing for The Messenger. I love finding new information for everything that goes on at CCA, I expecially love writing about fine arts and student life. I find new and exciting information intriguing and I love to share it with my classmates. I have a strong passion for helping out at my church with the young children. I hope to become author, journalist, or photographer. I have two favorite Bible verses: Jeremiah 29:11 “ For I know that plan I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. Psalm 139:14 “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made your works are wonderful I know that full well.”

My name is Rachel Toalson and I am a sophomore here are CCA. I love being able to write and be a reporter for The Messenger. I’m Leslie Saravia and I’m a photographer for the Messenger. What I like about taking pictures is that you’re able to get that perfect moment in your life and have the memories captured forever. What I do as a pass time is play soccer, practice the violin, and talk to my friends on Facebook. I’m new to CCA and a freshman. When I grow up I want to be a plastic surgeon or professional soccer player.

Kyle Swenson
My name is Kyle Swenson and I’m a sophomore at Calvary Christian Academy, this is my second year here. One of my favorite classes is journalism. I like journalism because I get to write about many important school events such as sport games, concerts, and plays. My favorite thing to do is preform in plays at the Coral Springs Center For The Preforming Arts and play lacrosse on travel teams and here at CCA. My life verse is John 3:16: “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” this verse is a promise from God that all we must do is believe in him.

Jessie Gushue
My name is Jessie Gushue and I am a sophomore at CCA. I serve as a writer for The Messenger, covering the local, national and international news, as well as CCA’s Discipleship news. Writing has always been a great outlet for me, as it helps bring order to chaos and is a great way to talk to God. Writing is a complete blessing, and I’m so thankful God has given me this gift. Aside from writing, I ride horses and enjoy volunteering at a barn for therapeutic riding sessions. Getting to teach and help kids has brought me so much joy and inspiration. I aspire to follow Christ first and foremost and use my gifts for the glorification of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Jacob Jackson
My name is Jacob Jackson and I attend Calvary Christian Academy as a sophomore. I like journalism because it lets me write about the interesting things that happen at CCA. I have a passion for missions and I have spread God’s Word all over the world including: Russia, Mexico, Australia, and Ecuador. When I get older I would like to serve the Lord full time on the missions field. My favorite Bible verse is Ephesians 6:17-18: “And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.”

Hannah Larson
Hi, my name is Hannah Larson and I am a junior at Calvary Christian Academy. I am excited to be apart of the Messenger staff this year! I enjoy playing and watching all types of sports, especially soccer. When I grow up I want to move to a Spanish country and teach English to children. This year, I am looking forward to reporting on various CCA sports events. I am also thrilled to see how God will use CCA athletics to further His kingdom this year. My name is Gabriel Tullian Tchividjian and this year I am a junior at CCA. I have always been told that I am a pretty good writer, so I decided to write for the Messenger. I have a huge passion for sports, and I enjoy writing about football and basketball. As a matter of fact, I play basketball and I run cross-country for the school. My name is Caitlin McCrary and I am a junior at CCA. It is my first year here, and I love it so far! I’m interested in sports, and I play on the Varsity volleyball team here at CCA. I have secretly always wanted to write a book, but I doubt I ever will. I want to travel the world. I have a soft spot for children, and anyone that is hurting. One of my favorite verses is Psalm 73:26 “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” I love that verse, because it really is true, God is our strength, and the only one we can count on 100% of the time.

My name is Tristen Johns and I am a writer for The Messenger. I love photography and writing, so I’m glad to be a part of this newspaper. Reporting is a lot of fun, especially in the Calvary Chapel and CCA community. This is my third and freshman year at CCA. I am on the swim team, which is what I cover for The Messenger. I love to go on local outreaches because I feel like I am making a difference in my community. My favorite verse is 1st Corinthians 13:4 and it says, “Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.” I love this verse because it is a reminder to show love to others every day.

Hello, my name is Annie Harley! This is my first year at Calvary and my junior year. I love journalism and I write for The Messenger. Writing can be a beautiful tool used to glorify God. I love my family very much; I wouldn’t change being a football coach’s daughter for the world! I play volleyball here at CCA, and I love my team. My name is Alex Rynard, and I am a new senior here coming from Fort Lauderdale Christian. I am a photographer for The Messenger. I love taking pictures of just about everything, but my favorite thing to photograph is landscapes. I play volleyball here at CCA, but I love Basketball and Softball too. After graduation, I plan on either going to Florida Gulf Coast University to become a physical therapist or to the Coast Guard Academy to fly helicopters.

My name is Susy Urrutia, a senior at CCA. I just started writing for The Messenger and already love it. Can’t wait for all the upcoming events that I will be able to write about this year. Being in journalism will help me learn more about Calvary and what is going on at my church and school. When I am not writing, I am either singing, playing my guitar, or participating in Calvary’s dance program, which I love!

Hi, my name is Karly Palmar. I’m a Junior at CCA and a photographer for The Messenger. I’ve been a part of this newspaper for two years, and I love taking pictures, especially of sports! I have been playing soccer since I was little and every year I enjoy it more and more. I’ve played for the school for four years now and attended CCA for 12. When I get older, I want to go into marketing or something involved with soccer.
