“One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish,” goes one of the many witty rhymes of America’s favorite doctor. He’s the father of the “Cat in the Hat,” and two major motion pictures that you’ve probably seen, have been made from his stories. Have you guessed yet? Why, it’s no other than the famous Dr. Seuss!
To celebrate Theodor Seuss Geisel’s birthday, the CCA pre-school has an eventful day planned that will include one of Dr. Seuss’ stories, Horton Hears a Who, performed by Elizabeth Contini’s fifth grade drama class. In this drama, the fifth-graders will emphasize that no matter how small you are, God loves you and has a plan for your life.
The pre-school students will walk away with a better understanding of the importance of their differences and will learn to respect the uniqueness God has given everyone. In addition to Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who, Max Lucado’s story, You are Special, will also be shown by the fifth grade students to affirm these values. Early Childhood Coordinator, Jan Lashbrook, expresses, “The pre-school students are already noticing differences amongst each other and are beginning to compare themselves, so these dramas will really allow them to see that they are special in God’s eyes and that it’s good to be different!”
For the rest of the elementary school, students will celebrate Dr. Seuss by participating in “Wacky Wednesday,” when they will come to school looking their craziest! They will also learn the importance of Dr. Seuss’ perseverance in their media classes, because even though Dr. Seuss was rejected twenty-seven times before being published, he emerged as one of the most influential children’s authors. Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss, and thank you for reminding us that “a person’s a person no matter how small!”
