Modest is Hottest

Girls, summer is here and it is time to say “Au revior” to the plaid skirts, polo shirts, and navy Bermuda shorts. But before you do, look around. Don’t try to conform to some of the fashions out there. Teenage girls in today’s society are being bombarded with sensual impressions from the media: from fashion magazines to TV and films.
So, why can’t we dress like everyone else does? Well, for one thing, guys’ minds work differently than ours, no matter what the age of the guy. For example, when a guy looks at a pie, he starts envisioning a delicious, hot apple pie. It’s the same when he sees a girl who’s showing off a little too much skin. His mind begins to imagine things that aren’t there, things that he shouldn’t be thinking. That’s why it’s so important for girls to be modest with clothing.
While it is nice to wear fun fashions, modest is hottest. Katie Mattiuzzo, Teen Girl Specialist Magazine Editor of Peristeria, a Christian magazine for teenage girls, has some helpful tips to help dress for success. She let us in on this season’s top fashions, which include a variety of styles to accommodate all tastes.
Some useful tips to achieve modesty are the three L’s:
Light: “When you find an article of clothing you just can’t live without, ask yourself if the fabric is too lightweight to be modestly worn ‘as is,’ “Katie said. “If it’s too thin or see-through, that’s okay, but just be sure you march over to the tank tops and layer accordingly. If it’s a piece that really won’t look the same with tank tops underneath, you might need to put it down and back away slowly!”
Longevity: Would that dress look good if it shrinks, or you ate a heavier meal that day without displaying the outline of your undergarments? Clothes that are too tight are definitely a no-go.
COLORS
The colors aim to please everyone, with bright and bold colors, along more soft pastels. Orange, fuchsia, yellow, red, and blue in all different shades are in style for an exhilarated appearance. But if you prefer a more subdued look, cream, light pink coral, butter yellow, and nude are also very trendy shades for the summer. Classy black and white is still a great option, for those occasions when you feel like less is more.
ACCESSORIES
A few of the “in” accessories include dangly and oversized stud earrings, big rings, and cuff bracelets. A nice wedge heel is also a great look with a dress, or skinny jeans for a night out with your friends. To complete your outfit, pair it with an oversized purse with a shorter strap, or a larger clutch. Shiny medal embelishments are nice trimmings to the perfect handbag.
STYLE
One of the most chic trends of the summer is the nautical look, which is convenient since we live close to the beach. Colors of this style are primarily navy and red, with hints of white. You can accomplish this style by pairing a striped shirt underneath an unbuttoned cardigan or bold colored blazer. Look for dresses with bold stripes and geometric patterns. If you are not a fan of the sailing style, lightweight, flowy blouses with bold floral prints are also a great look. The peasant style blouse is also a new, trendy look.
MODESTY
Girls, do not forget that modest is hottest! Currently there are plenty of modest styles that are still fashionable, such as leggings under dresses that may be too short. Pair that super cute lightweight tank top with a solid colored shirt underneath.
