CCA’s Technology Wave

Deep within CCA and Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale, a technological tidal wave is sweeping over the student body. Rumbling and tumbling, students and administrators alike are left buzzing about this epic change. Don’t know what I’m talking about? Then grab your surf boards and get ready to learn more about the 2009-2010 CCA technology wave!

CCA computer department leaders, Sandy Torres and Jeff Green, are currently in the process of implementing a new and innovative school programming system called Blackbaud. Instead of trying to mesh four different software programs together, with the use of Blackbaud’s Education Edge, everything will work together as a cohesive unit. This will include attendance, grades and transcripts, admissions, and scheduling. This new software will replace Edline, GradeQuick, and School Minder.

As of now, Blackbaud’s Education Edge is only being used for high school class scheduling for the upcoming 2009-2010 school year. In the upcoming future, however, this software will be used to assist students, parents, and administrators school wide. The school body will be introduced to this new software in the following order: students, teachers and staff, and then parents. Another interesting element of Blackbaud’s Education Edge is that it integrates CCA alumni.  With this new component, alumni will be able to keep in touch and inform everyone of what they are doing.

The long term goal for the new software is that it will eventually be merged with the church’s financial database using Financial Edge. The purpose of this is to link the school and church’s financial network in order for billing to be more efficient. The switch over to Education and Financial Edge is expected to take place in August 2009.

As students, we have so much to be thankful for as we are part of a school and church community committed to discipleship and willing to invest in the technology that will help us reach our educational goals.

It’s exciting the capabilities we’re growing into. Thanks, too, to the supporters of the Tech Fund. It couldn’t happen without you! To God be the glory.
