The Final Hour: A Halloween Outreach

Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale will be presenting its community an outreach they won’t soon forget. “The Final Hour” is a haunted house event with chills and thrills, and a compelling message of eternity.  CCFL’s new outreach pairs its Outreach Ministry with a cast of Youth Ministry students who will bring theatrical scenes with shockingly scary “live” experiences, from mazes and scare zones on CCFL’s central campus, every weekend throughout the month of October.

Last year, Liquid Youth Ministry put together a ”Hell Walk,” a portrayal of hell presented well by the CCA drama students.  While Liquid’s Hell Walk pales in significance with The Final Hour outreach, it does have similarities in that they both answer the question, “What happens after I die?”

Part of this outreach will contain a drama and a series of vignettes that tells the story of one man’s journey through life’s trials and temptations. Spectators of this event will make their way through this “haunted house” while the trams carry the people from scene to scene. It’s similar to a haunted house where students are casted to be the so called “monsters”.  Students will also be working the concession stand as well as greeting people.

So we can guess that this outreach will be filled with scary haunted rooms, snacks and entertainment, but what else?  What does this have to do with Jesus?  Well let’s take a hint from the name, “The Final Hour.”  What about Jesus’ final hour? What about the hour he died to save us? What about the hour he spent in miserable pain for us to be forgiven so we wouldn’t have to spend eternity in hell?  Could this be what The Final Hour is about?  It’s probably not just about us running around having a good time with friends, eating a bunch of popcorn and candy, and getting scared.  I propose that it is not for us to think about our friends, family, or Halloween, but about ourselves and our walk with God and His Son.

How is your walk? Maybe you have an amazing walk with the Lord, or at least a pretty good one, or maybe a lukewarm one.  Possibly, you just started your walk or don’t even have one. Whichever the case is, I’m sure The Final Hour will have us all thinking about where we are and where we are headed. So be sure to bring all your friends, saved and unsaved, to one of the most meaningful and entertaining events this year…The Final Hour. Don’t let time skip away.
