When people mention “Genesis,” the first thing that comes to mind is creation. It’s one thing to know the story of it, even to see the beauty of it, but quite another to truly understand it. This year, CCA’s Fine Arts Department will be presenting Creation: A Dance Concert, a powerful production that tells the story of life, birth, and salvation.
“Creation” was first performed by CCA a couple of years ago, but this year, it has been taken to a higher level. With more dramatic imagery and effects, this year’s concert will show us in more detail why we’ve been placed in this world—because as beautiful as its creation is, as tempting as its treasures are, we are here for one purpose—to be ambassadors for Christ.
The story begins with creation, and then continues to tell of the birth of Jesus Christ, our one and only Savior. “One of the most powerful scenes is when Eve is being tempted by Satan,” says Mrs. Jennifer Dolan, CCA’s Dance and Fine Arts teacher. “It’s so emotional to see that put into a perspective we can actually see.” Mrs. Dolan, along with Mrs. Armstrong, Mr. Tim Flay, and Mrs. Judi Boudreaux are all in charge of “Creation,” and auditions took place last week. “Casting was difficult because we have to see not only the skill, but also the passion and commitment put into this by the students,” explains Mrs. Dolan, who assigned the students interested in solo parts to come up with a specific choreography to go along with their parts. Inspired to create a new spin into their perspective roles, students practiced on their own and then came back to show what they could do.
With so many gifted dancers, some parts were doubly casted. The role of Eve will be played by Tawni Hammer and Rebecca Quinn, two extremely talented sophomore dancers. Each will perform in two shows—which will allow the audience to see a different interpretation through what each one has to contribute. Although casting was said to be difficult, more than sixty high school and middle school dancers have been chosen to be a part of this spectacular production.
God has truly blessed CCA’s Fine Arts Department with the ability to create such moving production of our world’s creation. This will be one concert you certainly do not want to miss. For more information, please stay tuned to our Fine Arts section at www.ccaeagles.org.
