Leadership. Some see Presidents, and others, caped vigilantes, but why look to white-haired men or in a comic book when leaders are around every corner, including the hallways of CCA? With the recent elections for Student Leadership finished, four students from each grade rose into the position of administrative liaison on behalf of the student body. Leadership at CCA has taken on a new form, combining the responsibilities of the previous Class Leadership and Student Government.
Freshmen class President Avery Reeder was elected alongside representatives Josh Agarth, Daniel Read, and Allison Ridenour. The Sophomore class appointed President David Brown and representatives Monique Jones, Christine Lakatos, and Brianna Schieffer. Junior class President Mike Hornsby was chosen by his peers in addition to representatives Drew Anderson, Jake Kaufman, and Monica Quijano.
“I want to know what my class thinks about important issues, and I would like to speak for all of us,” plans Freshmen President Avery Reeder. As a CCA student for ten years, Avery has no problem stepping into the role of leadership, even as a ninth-grader. “I know how the wheels turn at Calvary. I also look up to the upper-classmen in leadership, which helps a lot,” continues Reeder.
As Reeder looks forward, President Kristi Weise cannot help but look around her senior year. “I have walked away many times in awe and with tears in my eyes, thanking God for the amazing things God is doing in our class,” says Weise, “This is our last year of high school and our last chance to impact our world together as a class. Once we graduate, we will have to be ready to face the world on our own. My prayer for us all this year is that each one of our hearts would be set on fire for God and that we would cease this final opportunity to leave our mark and be remembered.”
So what will people remember about the year of 2010? It may be the laughs or the tears, but perhaps it will be the people who defined them—the Student Leadership that stepped up to make it all happen.
