Last week Friday, painted blue and gold faces, beaded necklaces, and glittered bodies flooded the bleachers of the West Fields to watch the Calvary Christian Academy Varsity Football team play against American Heritage Delray—not only for the Homecoming game, but also for the 7-1A District championship title.

Fans went through a rollercoaster of emotions as touchdowns, turnovers, and tackles climaxed by the Half at a score of 28-21, led by the Stallions. “Our guys were encouraged to see we could play with such a talented team,” reflects Head Coach Jason Kaiser.

Halftime kicked off with a choreographed routine by both the Varsity and JV cheerleaders followed by a ceremonious introduction of the Homecoming court. Some nominees, however, rushed back after the announcement to midfield to compete in class competitions. Five girls and five guys from each grade were instructed to build a four-three-two-one pyramid, and the class that finished first racked up some spirit points for the Homecoming class score. Once again, Seniors took the win.

To start off the second half, Junior Daniel Hendershaw recovered an onside kick. Three plays later, Quarterback Javan Shashaty completed a short pass to Senior Kyle Whitley followed up by a 51-yard run into the end zone by the wide receiver. Unfortunately, American Heritage scored 17 additional points and forced three turnovers to conclude the game with a final score of 45-21 favoring the Stallions before the game was cancelled due to darkness with four minutes left on the clock.

The CCA Varsity Football team placed second in the district and even though it may have been a disappointing loss, the athletes have a lot to look forward to as they move into the bout for Regionals.

Following the game, the CCA players “had an opportunity to share who we are in Christ and our mission as a team,” says Kaiser, “Most importantly we saw a coach from their team come to Christ.”

Overall, it looks like the Calvary Football program has had another victory!
