Mexico Going-Away Fiesta

Chili peppers, enchiladas, sombreros and smiles could all be found at the seniors’ Mexico Going-Away party last Sunday night. Students and their families alike gathered together to enjoy an evening of fellowship and Mexican food, along with the last informational meeting before the seniors’ departure on November 29 to the Yucatan Peninsula.
The atmosphere was full of excitement and anticipation as the students began to prepare their hearts to continue the indescribable work God has already begun in Mexico. The night kicked off with a word of prayer by CCA Youth Pastor Topher Harrison, and then the feasting began. Traditional Spanish music played softly in the background as students tried various ethnic dishes and parents shared conversations.
After spicy tacos were eaten and new friendships were made, the senior drama team performed their interpretation of the powerful and moving skit “Everything” by Lifehouse. And what started as a time of fellowship under a starry sky, ended with some closing statements and final goodbyes. Senior Meghan Mason said, “The fiesta was a blast! It was a great opportunity for the students and parents to discuss and pray about the upcoming trip. . .”
With the trip being less than two weeks away, the seniors will hit the final stretch in a run. Preparations and arrangements are being made final, while hearts are already beginning to grow and mature. Senior Stephanie Taylor said, “Getting together with my classmates and all the great Mexican food really got me excited to go!”
After being postponed due to Swine Flu, the long awaited trip to the Yucatan has finally arrived. Pastor Topher says that the most important thing seniors can do to prepare for the trip is, “Pray and get into the Bible. If you are empty, you will have nothing to give out. It saddens me how often we as Christians minister without asking help of the Holy Spirit. Also, develop a prayer support team with parents and friends. And the most important thing I think our students need to remember is that God has something specific for each one of them on this trip. It could be a little child who grabs your heart and because of that you go home and sponsor a child. It could be that you see poverty and when you get home you devote money to support missions over seas. Or you could see the need for all people to worship the Savior and because of that you decide to dedicate your life to overseas missions.”
Please keep the senior class in prayer as they embark on a journey to be bold ambassadors for Christ! Pray that Christ’s love will shine brightly through their lives and that many people would come to know Him as their Lord and Savior.
