National Signing Day has easily become a phenomenon across America and in college sports. It gives a senior their first chance at actually signing a letter of intent for college sports. During the past week at CCA two of our seniors, Luke Jackson and Kaylee Groeneveld, both signed with colleges for athletic scholarships. Luke signed with the University of Miami to play baseball, and Kaylee signed with Liberty University to play volleyball. Both of these students are extraordinary athletes, and they are excited for what life has in store for them going into a new college environment.
Both students say it is a gift from God, giving them the opportunity to excel in a sport now, and even to have the opportunity to go to a school using their talent. Kaylee says she has been playing volleyball for at least eight years, and feels volleyball is definitely her passion. As for school choice, both Kaylee and Luke are really looking forward to where they will be going. However, Kaylee says “actually I never thought of going to a Christian school, and then Liberty came up, and I loved it when I went up there so I am really excited to go.” Luke does not have any problem of going to a secular campus because he feels like after praying and talking with his family, UM was the best choice to make. He says “I looked into the background of the coaches, and if they had strong Christian backgrounds; most of the coaches are Christian, and I also looked into the churches in the area and found a good church to get set up with.” Luke also likes the fact that UM is a local school and is easy for his family and friends to watch games on the weekends. “The school picks up 80% of my tuition and the rest is paid by the Florida Pre-Paid Program,” said Luke as he was talking about his new journey with UM.
Both students appreciate their excellent opportunity to go to school and play the sport they love. God gave them the ability and they are putting it to use!
