When plans for the Discipleship Building began coming together, the leadership of CCA stepped back to see what changes needed to be made to our campus. One obvious need was the development of CCA facilities. The Library Media Center (LMC) in the elementary school building had served its purpose for at least the first five years of CCA, but as God continued in His faithfulness, and our enrollment grew year after year, our needs also began to grow.

Now that our Discipleship Building is almost complete, there are just a few aspects of the project that are yet to be finished, one of these being the LMC on the third floor. This facility will service the learning needs of the 750 students who today make up our secondary school. CCA is giving their best effort to complete it, largely through donations to the Eagles’ Wings Annual Fund, which allocates donated funds for the advancement of CCA.

“Our current Media Center was originally designed to meet the needs of a K-8 school of 900 students,” said David Salvatelli, director of advancement. “Today we serve close to 1,400 students from preschool through twelfth grade, which creates immediate needs for additional books, computers, reference materials, and space to benefit our students today and for years to come.”

According to The American Association of School Libraries (AASL), “The school library program is not only integral to and supportive of the school curriculum, but also provides a mechanism for choice and exploration beyond the prescribed course of study.” If there were questions about the need and necessity of a new library, these statements make the case clear.

When Kathryn Nguyen, CCA Media Specialist, was asked what the new LMC would be used for, she said, “Secondary students’ reference, research, information, literacy instruction, recreational reading, book clubs, project display, etc.” When asked about the mission for the new LMC, she stated, “The mission of the present LMC is to disciple students to become effective users of ideas and information. That will continue to be our mission with secondary students as well.”

Mrs. Nguyen recently began surveying students in grades 8-12 through Groupwise e-mail to find out students’ perspectives relative to the LMC. She would like more input as she hopes to make the new LMC a success for all students in secondary school. The survey can be found at http://www.quia.com/sv/358758.html and takes just a few minutes to complete.

Mrs. Ngyuen notes, “As students approach college level, access to quality educational resources become more important, not less. Our students should be well educated and provided with resources that will help them become life-long learners as well as life-long disciples of Jesus Christ.”

Donating to Eagles’ Wings Annual Fund is easy: just go to ccaeagles.org/advancement, click on Annual Fund and follow the prompts.
