The Olympic countdown begins as the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, officially the Games of the XXX Olympiad, will take place in London, England, United Kingdom, from 27 July to 12 August. This is good news for London, who has not hosted the games since 1948.Because London was chosen over Moscow, New York City, and Madrid, it will become the first city to have officially hosted the Olympic Games three times (1908, 1948, 2012).

In order to prepare for the Olympics—in public transport, financing, ticketing, volunteers, security, medals, test events, tourism, etc.—the UK has made necessary accommodations of the Games; they have built multiple arenas to hold the various competitions, such as a brand new aquatics center and an over-the-top Olympic Arena.

Fifteen percent of the world’s population tuned into watch the previous Opening Ceremonies in Beijing during the Summer 2008 Olympics. Despite the amount of pressure on Great Britain to reach the caliber of China’s performance, the UK has ensured us that we will not be disappointed.
