On May 1, the secondary CCA community gathered at the Calvary Theatre to recognize high school students in the honor roll, principal’s honor roll, as well as those with the top GPA’s in their grade level. There were also special awards presented, including the leadership awards, National Merit Scholars and more in the academic area, as well as awards to those students who have achieved great heights in the areas of writing, visual, and performing arts this year.
More than 100 students were awards recipients that night. Teachers and administrators presented these in a systematic process, and Mr. Jason Rachels, High School Principal served as the master of ceremonies to keep the ceremony flowing smoothly. Students and their parents, as well as teachers and staff, were invited to a short time of refreshments at Calvary’s South Banquet Hall, before the event started at 7pm.
“Romans 13:7 tells us to give people what is their due and that’s what we did,” said Mr. Rachels, who was glad to see the extra care that went into the night’s ceremony was a huge success. “We wanted to recognize those students who have been gifted by God with different abilities and worked hard this year in a way that is worthy of honor and recognition. It’s great to celebrate accomplishments together with a heart of appreciation for what the Lord has blessed us with.”
Of all the awards being presented that night, Mr. Rachels said the spiritual leadership awards stood out for a very good reason. “I am most excited about students walking in the ways of the Lord and leading others to Him. We are honored and blessed to have so many students who have a vibrant and growing relationship with the Lord.”
The highlights of the night included video clips produced by Mr. Rick Negron, Video Production teacher, with some of his students. The video took us behind the scenes to get a glimpse of the life of a CCA student. The ceremony included the following awards:
